Holly Hilgenberg of Stained Ghost

In my work with Society of Air, I share almost two decades of communications experience, having worked in marketing and branding for educational institutions, government agencies, publications, non-profit organizations and small businesses, including my own (most recently, my art & vintage business, Stained Ghost). I also have B.A.s in Journalism, Political Science and Communication Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a MA in Mass Communication Research and Theory from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where I focused on visual communication and the building of culture and community through communication practices and tools.

These experiences have shown me that, while not necessarily complicated, the tools and strategies of communications can often feel overwhelming or inaccessible to folks who are in need of implementing them to share and grow their work. I believe it doesn’t have to be that way, and I know that you can use communications to work for you, not against you.

My favorite part of this work is finding ways to meld the creative with the practical, and uncovering the visual spirit of the work that I’m sharing. As an artist working in the field of communications, I’ll help you narrow in on your path forward while still feeling expansive in your creativity and vision.

I approach this work from an anti-corporate/anti-dominator lens (don’t get me started on media conglomeration…or do, if you want to talk about it!:-)) and for years have worked to find ways to utilize the tools of communication to build a better world and to support folks like you doing your part in aiding that.

I believe that as humxns, creativity and communication are essential to our uniqueness on this planet and with that, we have a responsibility to use those abilities in a way that is for the betterment of all, not just for the few. I also believe that the work you are being called to do here is part of that equation and that is exactly the reason why I’ve created Society of Air to support you in sharing your vision and medicine with the world!

I look forward to working with you!

xo—Holly
